Sergey Zagraevsky. MOSCOW. OCTOBER. BOTANIC GARDEN

Sergey Zagraevsky’s paintings have a charming and colorful presence. They are easily entered and enjoyed as they emerge from a traditional Russian folk art style. There is a timelessness about the work. The art is not necessarily innovative, modern, or absolutely original, but it is in the history of other Russian artists going back centuries.

Their importance is knowing their roots and that they follow an unbroken chain of Russian imagery that remains as a continuous style from a particular Russian heritage. Although Russia has undergone so many upheavals and changes, this art depicts the core of consistency in the Russian psyche and culture.
